An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was recorded this Monday near Florence in Italy. According to local authorities, citing Reutersthe impact did not cause significant damage.
According to the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV in Italian), the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded near Marradi, a city about 70 kilometers northeast of Florence, and had a depth of 8.4 kilometers.
According to INGV, the tremor occurred at 3:10 a.m. local time (2:10 a.m. in Lisbon) and was followed by several aftershocks.
“At the moment, there are no particularly critical situations after the earthquake with its epicenter in Marradi,” Tuscan Governor Eugenio Giani said on Facebook, adding that operations were being carried out to check for possible structural damage to buildings.
