Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday the United Nations (UN) Security Council has lost credibility as its permanent members fight wars without permission, and defended reform of the body.
“The UN Security Council is gradually losing its authority. Its paralysis is the most eloquent proof of the need and urgency of its reform, giving it greater representation and effectiveness,” said the President of Brazil at the opening of the general debates of the 78th convocation. 2nd UN General Assembly.
According to Lula da Silva, the perceived fragility of the Security Council “is, in part, the result of the actions of its permanent members who wage unauthorized wars in search of territorial expansion or regime change.”
