The management of the Hospital Américo Boavida (HAB) in Luanda promised this Wednesday “due responsibility” for the doctor who allegedly denied medical care and medicine to a patient who died on Tuesday in the area adjacent to this hospital unit.
In a statement sent this Wednesday to Lusa and signed by HAB CEO Mario Fernandez, the institution said the patient arrived at 5:58 a.m. local time on Tuesday in serious condition and was taken by family members to the emergency bank. .
Upon admission, he adds, the patient was taken to the doctor on duty, but he “not only did not provide any medical assistance with medications, but also ordered the family to remove him from the hospital ward,” Mario Fernandez said, alluding to the CCTV images.
The patient died “a few minutes later in the area adjacent to the hospital,” the note said, stressing that “there are indications” that the doctor acted “without informing other specialists on the shift and the supervisor on duty.”
HAB management announced the suspension of the medical team following the incident and reported the incident due to the alleged negligence of the medical team on duty to the Service of Criminal Investigation (SIC).
Images circulating on social networks show the corpse of a young man lying on the ground near a residential building located in the city’s Rangel district.
HAB management not only reported the incident to the JCC and suspended the entire duty team, but also informed the Prosecutor General’s Office of the “seriousness of the matter”, providing all the necessary information.
The hospital department also reported the case to the Angolan Medical Association (Ormed) to consider the matter in an ethical and deontological manner.
The public hospital in its statement also “deeply” expressed regret over the incident, expressed the family’s “sense of regret” and reiterated its “commitment to do everything to ensure due accountability to prevent episodes of this nature from happening again.” .
The President of the National Union of Doctors of Angola, Adriano Manuel, today held the Ministry of Health and the director of HAB responsible for the death of the young man.
Lusa also tried to get a reaction from Ormed, but has not yet received any response from this body.
