CDS-PP accuses the government of using moratoriums to pretend it is tackling housing problems

The CDS-PP accused the government this Thursday of using the moratorium to pretend that it is addressing the problems and believes that the announced measures to support families with housing loans are aimed at “deceiving the Portuguese”.

“The government of António Costa specialized in selling illusions to the Portuguese. The current socialist fashion is to use moratoriums to pretend that they are solving problems, when in fact they are simply postponing them without being able to solve them,” the party said in a statement.

CDS-PP believes that “by announcing a 30% interest rate discount, the government is deceiving the Portuguese people.”

“There are no discounts or any reductions—interest will be paid in two years—and the delay in payment only serves to delay a problem that would have already been mitigated if the government had accepted the CDS-PP deduction proposal from the IRS.” interest on a home loan to alleviate the rising costs faced by Portuguese families when purchasing a home,” he argues.

The party, led by Nuno Melo, stresses that this is “an effective and long-term response to support the Portuguese, who today pay increasingly higher premiums on housing loans.”

In the note, the centrists also argue that “the Portuguese need to take action to solve their difficulties, not just palliatives that only serve to deceive and delay problems.”

This Thursday, the Council of Ministers approved housing lending measures to help families mitigate the impact of rising interest rates, including a measure that ensures that the interest rate does not exceed 70% of the index (Euribor) and another that extends interest rate support. subsidies for housing loans from 720 to 800 euros.

The government is also maintaining the suspension of fees for early repayment of housing loans until the end of 2024.
