An accident involving a chorizo fryer at the Vila Galé Hotel in Meia Praia, Lagos, left two German tourists with serious injuries this Monday. The incident also resulted in a minor injury to one patron of the establishment, a Portuguese national.
At 6:59 p.m., an explosion warning was issued in the hotel restaurant, which did not occur.
“The accident occurred when a bottle of alcohol was being worked in the live kitchen and it exploded. The hotel is fully operational and was not damaged by any explosions,” explained Pedro Monforte, the hotel’s director.
The victims with facial and neck injuries were rescued at the scene by the Lagos Fire Service, Lagos Integrated Life Support Ambulance and Barlavento Medical Vehicle.
There were 16 gunmen at the scene, supported by six vehicles from the Lagos Fire Service, GNR and INEM. The Germans were transported to the Portimao hospital and the Portuguese to the Lagos hospital.
“We are in contact with hospitals to find out the clinical evolution of users,” the director added.
