The PSP, through its airport security department, arrested a 60-year-old man who was on a plane without permission in Lisbon on Saturday on suspicion of committing the crime of insubordination, resistance and coercion.
Authorities were called to the scene by the plane’s captain, who alerted them to the existence of an unauthorized passenger who had boarded the plane after jumping through the gate.
The suspect was uncooperative when asked for his identification and boarding pass before boarding the plane. According to PSP, the reasons that led to the travel ban were that the detainee had a “strong odor of alcohol” and was unable to speak coherently.
Inside the plane, the detainee changed places several times to deceive the crew. At the scene, authorities ordered the man to leave the plane, but he did not comply with this order.
The detainee was recognized as a defendant and provided documents confirming his identity and place of residence. He was notified of the need to appear for a hearing at the Lisbon Local Criminal Court.
