A woman and a man, aged 20 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of bringing counterfeit currency into Fundao.
Authorities received a report that a woman was trying to make a payment with counterfeit bills. Soldiers of the National Republican Guard (NRG) arrived on the scene and found the suspect.
The woman had 700 euros of counterfeit banknotes and was in a trading establishment with the aim of exchanging them.
Another suspect was also found in the Santarém service area on Highway 1 with counterfeit banknotes worth €32,500. As a result of the action, 294 counterfeit €100 banknotes, 19 €200 banknotes and two mobile phones were seized.
The detainees were declared accused and the facts were reported to the Castelo Branco judicial court.
