This Friday, the UK announced sanctions against the organizers of the recent Russian “election farce” in the Ukrainian territories illegally annexed by Moscow a year ago.
“We cannot hold elections in a foreign country,” British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said in a statement, condemning the “election farce” staged by Russia to “attempt to legitimize its illegal control over the sovereign territory of Ukraine.”
Among the eleven new targets of British sanctions – financial and travel restrictions – are the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC), one of its top officials, Natalya Budarina, and the head of the Russian administration and head of the CEC, Andrei Alekseenko.
