Guterres mentioned, among other things, the attack on a military academy in Homs in western Syria, which killed about 70 people. The drone attack targeted a graduation ceremony at a military school in Homs, one of the deadliest attacks on government forces in recent years, with the perpetrators still unknown.
In a statement, Guterres said he condemned any violence in Syria and called on “all parties to respect their obligations under humanitarian law,” insisting that “a truce is necessary for a meaningful political process.”
