US President Joe Biden on Wednesday accused Russia of violating the fundamental principles of UN membership by invading Ukraine.
According to Reuters, Biden also added in his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York “that Moscow irresponsibly threatened to use nuclear weapons” and “criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for starting an unprovoked war in which about 40 UN members help Ukraine fight with funding and weapons.”
Biden believes the Kremlin violated the fundamental principles of the UN Charter by invading a neighboring country as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
In response to Putin’s statements, the US president “said that no one threatened Russia, despite his claims to the contrary, and that only Russia sought conflict,” vowing to continue to support Ukraine.
The Reuters news agency also reported that the White House announced a $2.9 billion bailout to combat global food insecurity. In this regard, the UN blames the conflict in Ukraine in a situation of “acute hunger”, in which 47 million people find themselves.
US President Joe Biden has also defended that the United Nations should be “more inclusive” and supported an increase in the number of permanent and non-permanent members of the Security Council.
“There should be more seats for countries that intend to get a seat on the Security Council. And that includes countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean,” Biden said during his speech to the UN General Assembly, which continues from Tuesday in New York.
The President of the United States said the United Nations must be more inclusive to allow “the voices of the smallest countries to be heard, as well as the voices of the largest,” showing that he is available for “this vital work” within the organization. , increasing the number of permanent members (currently five) and non-permanent members (currently 10).
