The state budget includes funds for new judicial police facilities in Faro and Braga – and on Wednesday the minister also promised in Coimbra – the installation of this police laboratory in Funchal (which will also serve the Azores and will be “fundamental in the fight against new drugs”) and strengthening human resources by approving a multi-year recruitment plan for the joint venture until 2026.
The state budget report states that in the “fight against corruption and new crime” in 2023, “judicial police resources have been strengthened in order to achieve the goal of decisively combating crime, with a focus on corruption and economic policy.” -financial crime, (…) while 40% of new resources are directed to the fight against corruption.”
The joint venture will be one of the main beneficiaries of the 16.8% increase (to 1.961 million euros) in the justice budget. This is 282 million more than expected this year. About 900 million will come from fines and fees.
