Renamo President Ossufo Momade said this Sunday that the party won the local elections and does not recognize the results announced by the electoral authorities, condemning the “mega-fraud” to “keep” Filipe Nyusi and Frelimo in power in Mozambique.
“The mega-fraud, the manipulation of the election results, is aimed at creating an environment of war for Mr. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi. [Presidente da República] and the Frelimo party remains in power illegally,” said the president of the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo, the largest opposition party) this afternoon in Maputo at the end of an extended extraordinary meeting of the National Political Commission.
The meeting reviewed the “progress of the voting and counting process” of the sixth local elections held on October 11 in 65 municipalities, in which electoral authorities have already declared victory for the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo, the party in power) in at least 45 and one for the Democratic Movement Mozambique (MDM), with Renamo having now lost all eight municipalities it controlled.
“This is the true destruction of democracy in Mozambique,” said Ossufo Momade, therefore, in the conclusions of this meeting, this party body places responsibility on the head of state: “Detaining the President of the Republic and the police of the Republic of Mozambique are responsible for all the instability and social upheaval resulting from the falsifications on elections.”
“The National Political Commission noted with great satisfaction that the Renamo party won the local elections,” said the party leader, citing data from a parallel vote count using polling station records and criticizing the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in the face of a “genuine denial scenario free, fair and transparent elections.”
He said the party had decided “neither to accept nor reject all published election results”: “Wherever we win, we want to win. It is not a particular party that can delay victory.”
He cited the municipalities of Nampula, Quelimane, Vilanculo, Angoche, Nacala, Ilha de Mozambique, Matola, Marracuene and Maputo as examples of Renamo’s victory in these elections, saying that these were “protocols pasted on the walls” immediately after the vote. consider what you can prove.
“But this was led by the Central Committee [da Frelimo] script change. And we will not accept this,” he assured.
Renamo complains that “in some local authorities, the voter registration books delivered to political parties were different from those on the voting tables,” which “impeded the observation and control of the voting of candidate delegates.”
Moreover, “in almost all municipalities, during the counting of votes, when the results gave a large advantage to the Renamo party, the police invaded the polling stations, opened fire and used tear gas to interrupt the ongoing voting.” “And he continually collected ballots cast by an unspecified party without oversight from candidate delegates, election officials or observers,” he said.
He also said that in municipalities where Renamo won the elections, “the chairmen of the polling stations were ordered not to fill out the protocols.”
