Guinean Head of State Umaro Sissoko Embalo met this Friday in New York with US President Joe Biden to discuss terrorism in Africa, the conflict in Ukraine and cooperation between the two countries.
In a Facebook post, Umaro Sissoko Embalo said that during the meeting, “the relations of friendship and cooperation, as well as the main political and economic issues” were discussed, which “are today the most acute problems of the international situation, exacerbated by the confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.”
At the meeting, the two presidents spoke about the consequences of these problems, namely the rise in prices for energy and basic necessities, which is “very” burdensome for the African continent.
Terrorism in Africa also dominated the meeting.
In a speech delivered Thursday at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Umaro Sissoko Embalo said that the fight against terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crime in Africa must involve the international community and the United Nations in particular.
“We need international assistance to stop the spread of terrorism in West Africa and throughout the Sahel region,” the President of Guinea stressed.
According to Umaro Sissoko Embalo, terrorism, violent extremism and transnational crime are threats “to international peace and security that require the mandatory involvement of the entire international community and the UN in particular in order to be effective.”
