“This pedant thinks he’s in charge of the nurses.” This is how Ana Rita Cavaco, president of the Order of Nurses, reacts to the statements of the president of the Order of Doctors, Carlos Cortes, who in an interview with RTP television said that “doctors were the ones who decided the pandemic.” Nursing leadership is not suppressing the uprising. “They are single heroes, how wonderful. Don’t forget, dear nurses, that they do everything alone to take advantage of tomorrow and take everyone before the end of the year. Everyone leave, stay there,” says Ana Rita. Cavaco.
Doctors have again come under fire for their refusal to work overtime beyond the legal limit of 150 hours. In an open letter to the President of the Republic, Ana Rita Cavaco points to the shift work of nurses as an example to follow. “The nurses are already working, they have always worked morning, noon and night shifts for seven days. And this is what needs to happen in the SNA,” he says.
