Tony Carreira criticizes amnesia ‘tactics’ and stresses: ‘Nothing will change how much I miss my daughter’

Tony Carreira leaves the Santarem court for a lunch break and talks to reporters. “Nothing will change how much I miss my daughter. Nothing will change the current situation, which is a tragedy. I do not come here with the intention of getting revenge on anyone, absolutely no one,” he explains.

Sarah Carreira’s father argues that “there is not a minimum percentage of humanity on the other side of most of the accused,” and also emphasizes that “what happened to them could have happened to me, could have happened to anyone. At least that’s just assuming what happened, with all the mistakes.”

Finally, he criticizes the reaction of some defendants in court: “They chose a theory with the lawyer’s tactics, namely amnesia.”

Thiago Pacheco’s girlfriend speaks in court

Carolina Amaral, Thiago Pacheco’s girlfriend, is now appearing in court. Asked by prosecutors about what happened the night Sarah Carreira died, the woman said she was heading to Lisbon with her boyfriend after leaving her parents’ home in Mangualda.

“It was very foggy and raining heavily, and I saw lights on the right side and the car started jerking,” he recalls.

“Then we started driving, I started screaming and I remember Thiago grabbed me and out of nowhere we were on the side of the road. I wasn’t paying attention as if I was driving, but we were having a normal trip. I remember there was almost no visibility during the accident,” adds Caroline.

“Thiago said we needed to get out of the car to be safe, so we went to the side of the road,” the woman said.

Carolina states that she spoke with Ivo Lucas. He asked his name, but the singer was very scared and only asked: “Where is Sarah.”

“I didn’t really understand what was happening, I only saw that our car was on fire, I was very confused,” she adds.

Witness says there was ‘no time for fun’ on that tragic night

The Justice Department is interviewing new witness Paula. “What did you witness?” – says the deputy.

“We were driving from Leiria, the weather was really not fun, when we passed there in front of the Santarem station, there was a sign preventing an accident,” he begins with the story.

“After a few meters I saw a stopped car with no lights or signs and I started to see wreckage, I saw a jeep. I tried to see how he would get there, I called the fire department, I remember a truck driving by. me,” he says.

Tony Carreira returns to the room.

“CODU told me to go watch but I couldn’t come out. I was scared. There was a lot of water on the road. It was dark and I don’t remember seeing four cars, I only saw three. park,” he continues.

“Then a man with a traffic light came and lifted my car and removed what was under it and said we needed to look carefully because it might catch fire,” Paula describes.

“I haven’t spoken to any of the people involved. Our task was to pull out what was under the car,” he adds.

Tony Carreira’s lawyer asks if the witness saw those involved in the accident. Paula says no and explains: “This moment is so disturbing that if the Pope had been there without his cassock, I would not have recognized him either.”

The testimony is over.

Prosecutors refuse Patricia Frias’ testimony.

Tony Carreira and Fernanda Antunes leave the courtroom

Marco Batista, Margarida Costa’s boyfriend, is the third witness to be heard this Wednesday. When asked by the deputy what happened, Marco remembers that he was returning from Serra da Estrela and that it was raining. He says he doesn’t remember if it was fog.

“A bright panel appeared on the road warning that there was an accident 600/800 meters away,” says Marco.

“When I approached the cars, I saw Ivo. He was shirtless next to the car on the passenger side. Ivo looked at us,” he recalls.

“When I went to see my girlfriend, she said that Ivo asked us to meet his girlfriend, but we didn’t. There was a woman there, and Ivo stayed in the car with her. There was a firefighter who went with him to the scene. I’m looking for my girlfriend, who has already found a victim,” says Marco.

“She was already lifeless, we were on the phone trying to find out what could be done, we called the fire department and waited for them to arrive,” says Marco, detailing the condition of Sarah Carreira’s body.

“We tried to see if there was a pulse but there was none, my girlfriend asked if we could cut the belt, when they left I cut the belt. The top of the belt was next to the back of the seat. “I probably cut the belt in the place closest to the clip,” Marco continues.

At this point, Tony Carreira and Fernanda Antunez leave the courtroom.

The judge asks the prosecutor to stop asking detailed questions.

Magalhães e Silva, Tony Carreira’s lawyer, intervenes and asks the prosecutor: “What does it matter?”

The judge asks to move on.

The witness continues: “We waited for the firefighters and the police. We told the police we didn’t see the incident and then left. I’m sure I didn’t have the Jeep’s passenger door.”

The testimony is over.

“I immediately went to see if there was a pulse, but there was none”: veterinarian recalls the moment she tried to help Sarah Carreira

Margarida Costa, a veterinarian, is another witness. Prosecutors doubt what he remembers from that night. Margarida says she was returning from Serra da Estrela with her boyfriend and got distracted. “Suddenly there was a lot of garbage on the road, and he [o namorado] He braked sharply, fearing an accident, and managed to drive the car in the middle lane,” he recalls.

“He remembers seeing one or two cars on the right, and I saw one car on the left,” he says.

“We stopped on the side of the road, my boyfriend said there was a naked boy there. I went out first and met the boy, I don’t remember whether the lady appeared at the same time as me, I saw how the boy was, due to my profession, I saw that he was fragile, he had a fracture,” adds Margarida.

“The boy was very disoriented, he called his girlfriend. I said that I would help, I didn’t take my mobile phone, it was very dark, I looked into the car, there was nothing there, and continued searching among the wreckage. … When I parked Ivo, he was closer to the edge, very disoriented,” says the witness.

Margarida says that she saw that it was not serious, since it was a fracture in the arm area, and therefore decided to go in search of Ivo’s girlfriend (Sara Carreira).

“My instinct was to look inside the car, but I didn’t see it. When I went to take a closer look, I saw her,” says the veterinarian, who begins to explain in detail what Sarah’s body was like.

Tony Carreira and Ivo Lucas lowered their heads.

“It was at this time that a male firefighter and my boyfriend arrived, the fireman was talking on the phone 112, and I was describing the victim,” he recalls.

“I immediately went to see if there was a pulse or not,” adds Margarida.

“The man on the phone received instructions, and we did as he told us. She was very tied to the belt, we didn’t see anything else. I tried to check if there was a pulse in the carotid artery, but the body was already cold,” he recalls the words of the witness, who stated that 112 gave permission to remove Sarah’s seat belt and place her body in a safe side position.

“We looked at the pulse again and then cut the shirt enough to go down to the neck to see if there was a pulse, and there wasn’t. We stayed there with her until someone said something different and until help arrived,” the doctor describes.

Fernanda Antunez had just entered the courtroom.

“It was raining earlier, when we stopped there was no rain and there was no fog, it was dark, there was no light. I remember when we were driving along the middle lane, everything was very fast, I saw lights on the right side, I don’t know if it was one or two cars. I remember that I saw a smoking car in front,” Margarida recalls.

A witness says he doesn’t remember the fog on that tragic night

João Gonçalves, an SEF employee, is a witness and will be heard via video conference. The prosecutor’s office begins to ask questions. “What do you remember about that night?” he asks.

João says he was traveling from Lisbon to Porto. “I saw a car coming towards me,” he recalls.

The deputy asks, “Was it fog?”

João replies: “Fog, I don’t remember, I don’t think it was raining, but it was already raining harder.”

“I called 112 to alert them to any emergency, I didn’t know what was happening, I wanted to alert the authorities,” he recalls.

“I tried to slow down, but I didn’t stop because there were no safety conditions on the track,” he finishes.

Tony Carreira comes to court and talks about Paulo Neves’ “lies”

Tony Carreira has already arrived at the court. “You know the process, and when a drunk man suddenly comes here and says: no, he was not driving at 28 km/h (…) this is a lie,” the singer says about the testimony of the defendant Paulo Neves.

Sarah Carreira’s father says “it wasn’t just Ivo” who was involved in the accident and says “amnesia is something that can come in handy.”
