Pope Francis has never hidden his love for football, being a big fan of the Argentina national team – the country of his birth – and the San Lorenzo club. Now, in an interview with TV Rai, the Supreme Pontiff touched on several topical issues, and the conversation even reached royal sports. When asked which of the Argentines Lionel Messi and Maradona he liked best, Pope Francis surprised everyone and chose… the Brazilian. “I’ll say the third thing: Pele. […] Of these three, for me the greatest is Pele, a man with a heart. I talked to Pele, I met him once on a plane when I was in Buenos Aires. We spoke. A man of such great humanity. All three are great, but each with its own specificity,” answered the Supreme Pontiff, leaving several compliments for the two Argentine players.
