“Cape Verde pays particular attention to human rights, making a strong commitment to their promotion, respect and strengthening of the democratic rule of law and the fundamental freedoms of its people,” the government’s report to the review group, which will be presented on Tuesday by Justice Minister Joana Rosa, underlines .

The Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights is a United Nations mechanism to which countries regularly submit.

In an extensive list, Joana Rosa will present steps taken by Cape Verde, for example at the legislative level, as well as practical measures in terms of gender equality and the protection of vulnerable groups.

Following the completion of the fourth assessment, the Universal Periodic Review Working Group is expected to adopt new recommendations on Friday.

In the report, the Cape Verdean government will also confirm its candidacy for membership of the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2025-2027.
