Carlos Vila Nova declined to comment on the case because he did not have “sufficient elements” but stressed that Portugal is a “great partner of Sao Tome and Principe” and a member of the Community of Lusophone Countries (CPLP), whose presidency is led by Sao Tome .
“We are following this through information channels, but I can say that this is all a political phenomenon, provided for in regimes that have a democratic rule of law, and within the framework of this support they will also find a certain answer and solution, because this is a political issue. and this happens in every country,” said Carlos Vila Nova.
“We will monitor, have more elements and watch closely because [Portugal] is a great partner of Sao Tome and Principe and is one of the members of the CPLP, our community,” added the head of state of Sao Tome, speaking on Tuesday evening at Sao Tome airport before traveling to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Antonio Costa asked the President of the Republic to resign and he accepted it after the State Ministry said he was the subject of an independent Supreme Court investigation into the lithium and hydrogen projects.
The president has convened the parties for a round of hearings at the Palacio de Belem in Lisbon and will meet with the Council of State on Thursday.
