According to research from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), British women are the most likely to drink alcohol to excess.
The OECD compared alcohol consumption among women in 33 countries and found that 26% of women drink at least six drinks on one occasion.
“Alcohol causes a lot of harm here in the UK. But it is completely preventable. The government needs to take action that we know will reduce harm from alcohol and save lives,” says Richard Piper, chief executive of Alcohol. Change UK, quotes The keeper.
Richard Piper also presented some measures that could be developed, such as introducing adequate controls on the sale of alcohol, introducing uniform prices across England and clearer labeling of alcohol.
Men were also studied and it was concluded that 45% of British men also drink at least six alcoholic drinks on one occasion. The UK came third when the study combined British men and women, with Luxembourg having the highest rate of binge drinking in the world.
