A 36-year-old man died this Friday afternoon in a plane crash at the Ponte de Sor airfield. The accident also seriously injured a 19-year-old man, who was taken by INEM helicopter to a San Jose hospital.
This is the second accident recorded this Friday near the Montargil dam in Ponte de Sor. The first accident left two men seriously injured.
The second fall occurred 30 kilometers from the first accident.
A source at the Alto Alentejo Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command told Lusa that the plane that died was a Cessna trainer.
The alarm came at 15:49.
Lusa, who was at the airfield after the air summit in Portugal, noticed the plane crash through the noise. Witnesses told Lusa that the plane had “just taken off” when it “did a sort of pirouette and crashed.”
The plane remained close to the airfield runway, rescuers immediately moved to the scene and continued rescue operations at 16:45.
In a conversation with Lusa, representatives of the Air and Rail Accident Prevention and Investigation Authority (GPIAAF) limited themselves to saying that it already has a team conducting investigations.
The relief operations involve 20 operators supported by nine vehicles.
