This Thursday, the Turkish parliament postponed the approval of Sweden’s NATO accession protocol, the remaining stage, together with Hungary’s approval, for the Scandinavian country to become the 32nd member of the Atlantic Alliance.
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly met this Thursday to give the green light to the protocol for joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), but decided to postpone the matter at the request of the Turkish Presidential Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to commission president Fuat Oktay, the decision to postpone is due to the fact that “the issue under discussion is not clear” and because “the negotiations are not mature enough,” Turkish Anatolia News Agency reported.
