The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) confiscated 123 thousand euros from an aesthetic clinic in the Lisbon metropolitan area as part of the investigation into a crime related to the usurpation of medical functions, the aforementioned agency announced this Saturday.
ASAE said in a statement that “searches of computer data were conducted on four pieces of equipment allegedly used to facilitate the commission of crimes in the investigation and development of illegal activities, namely the usurpation of medical functions.”
During the action, equipment and items used in the practice of aesthetic healthcare, documents and 123,310 euros, “real” money, which were “hidden in the ventilation system of the searched institution,” were seized.
ASAE believes there is evidence that the money corresponds to “proceeds derived from illegal activities involving non-billing and alleged tax evasion.”
The person in charge of the clinic was charged and identified and located.
ASAE concludes its statement by stating that it will continue to investigate “the phenomenon of interference with exclusive activities that only physicians are authorized to perform.”
