A 31-year-old man of foreign nationality was seriously injured this Sunday in an industrial accident at an olive oil factory in Brinches, in the municipality of Serpa, Beja district, a source at the GNR said.
The same source told Lusa that the accident occurred at the Cooperativa Agrícola de Brinches when a man was working in a mill next to a conveyor belt and got stuck in the equipment.
“The victim suffered a fracture of his left arm with loss of tissue” and was taken to the Sao Jose hospital in Lisbon, the Guarda source added.
A source from the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo said the alert about the incident was issued at 15:27.
According to the GNR, the Workplace Conditions Authority (ACT) has been contacted to investigate the accident.
According to the sub-regional command, Serpa and PNR firefighters, consisting of six operators and supported by two vehicles, participated in the relief operations.
A helicopter from the National Institute for Emergency Management (INEM) was also mobilized to the scene, but was not used to transport the victim.
