The Brazilian Congress approved today, by eight votes against Bolsonarist senators, the federal government’s intervention in the security of the Federal District, where the capital of Brasilia is located, by decree of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Sunday.
In a symbolic vote, the Senate (upper house) approved the measure, with a vote against it by parliamentarians supporting former President Jair Bolsonaro, a day after the approval by the Chamber of Deputies (lower house) in a vote that former PR supporters had abandoned earlier.
“This anti-democratic minority does not represent the Brazilian people. This coup-instigating minority will not impose its will through barbarism, force and criminal acts,” said Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco on Tuesday.
