Five firefighters were assisted when water containing titanium was discovered in a pipeline on the A4 motorway in Gandra, Paredes, late last night. Traffic was restricted.
At 4:15 p.m., a warning was issued for white smoke coming from the lid. Firefighters were called to the scene, but a strong smell, unrecognizable at the time, forced a brigade from Sapadores do Porto specializing in chemical products to be called. Then a chemical reaction between titanium and water was discovered. The chemical product, the CM found out, was supposed to come from a logging company in Gandra.
During these operations, traffic was restricted towards Porto/Amarante on the A4 motorway, causing long queues on the roads.
In addition to Sapadores do Porto, firefighters from Valongo, Baltar and Ermesinde were on the scene, as well as several INEM crews with a total of 46 people. GNR is investigating.
