Dozens of passengers were left with a scare Wednesday when the plane carrying them to Recife, the capital of Pernambuco state, hit the runway with its tail.
The incident occurred at Guararapes International Airport, the city’s main airport, but did not affect other landings and takeoffs.
After the first impact, which greatly frightened everyone, the plane dragged its tail along the runway for several meters, causing friction, which further increased the fears of the passengers, but everything ended well. The pilot managed to level and control the plane, which took off from the city of Aracaju, capital of the state of Sergipe, also in the northeast of the country, and land.
The incident, known in aviation circles as a “tail strike,” typically occurs when an aircraft arrives on the runway with its nose raised excessively, causing the first impact to occur on the tail of the aircraft. This approach error can cause serious damage to the aircraft and even cause the pilot to lose control and cause a serious accident, which this time did not happen and all the passengers on flight AD 2737 disembarked with shaky legs and a story to tell, but without any injuries. .
