A 112 alert of aggression between the couple and a quick response from the PSP do Barreiro this Thursday prevented the murder of a 78-year-old woman by her husband. The victim was found in a room almost lifeless and bleeding.
He had several stab wounds, especially on the head, neck, chest and one arm. Next to her was her 73-year-old husband with a used gun in his hand. When the agents entered, he held a knife to his chest and threatened to commit suicide, but was eventually restrained and not allowed to do so. When the suspect was under control, the police helped the elderly woman – they managed to stop the bleeding and keep the victim conscious until the arrival of INEM teams and firefighters. She was taken to the Barreiro hospital, where she was hospitalized, there was no longer a danger to her life.
The man, who was sentenced to four years in prison in 2017 for domestic violence but was released because the court gave him a suspended sentence, was immediately arrested. He spent the night in the dungeons of the Barreiro section and will be in court this Friday for his first court hearing.
