The 66-year-old man was sent from the emergency department of the Rainha Santa Isabel hospital in Torres Novas to await triage, to eventually be transferred to the Abrantes ward.
The victim fell this Friday morning at his home in Arneiro de Tremes, Santarem, but due to the fact that the Santarem hospital did not have emergency orthopedic care, CODU referred him to the Torres Novas Hospital.
Firefighters removed the man from the ambulance and took him to the department, where they filled out a patient questionnaire. A few minutes later, firefighters were ordered to return the patient to the ambulance and transport him to Abrantes.
The victim drove 65 km and was treated almost two hours after the accident.
