The family, who live at numbers 12 and 13 Venda Nova, off the EN110 in Tomar, were not shocked when a truck crashed and collided heavily with the house on Saturday morning, destroying one room and damaging other rooms.
Sofia Marquez, one of the residents, explained CM the grief that followed the collision: “My husband was leaving for work at the time, and I was in the living room. When I heard all this banging, I got to the room and couldn’t even open the door.” “Quite by chance, there was no one in the room,” he said. His first reaction was to go help the children, forgetting that his daughter was in Lisbon and did not come home for the weekend. “It didn’t even occur to me. I ran to her room,” admitted Sofia Marquez.
The only casualty was the truck driver, who, slightly injured and in the ambulance, was sent, by order of CODU, successively to the Tomar hospital, then to the Abrantes and Santarem hospitals, but he only entered the S. José hospital, in Lisbon.
