The candidate for the position of PS secretary general, Pedro Nuno Santos, criticized this Saturday the speech of PSD leader Luís Montenegro, saying that the “contrivance” was “a government decision that remains a good memory for the Portuguese.”
“I was waiting to hear the leader of the PSD talk about the country, talk to the Portuguese, but I only saw an intervention full of complaints, criticism, attacks, statements, in fact, very extreme,” Pedro Nuno Santos told journalists in Viana do -Castelo, where he met with activists of the Socialist Party (PS).
For the former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Luis Montenegro’s speech at the opening of the 41st PSD Congress in Almada showed that the Social Democratic leader had “learned little in the last eight years.”
“He attacked a government decision that left a good memory for the Portuguese, in contrast to another government of which he was parliamentary leader and which left a bad memory for the Portuguese,” added Pedro Nuno Santos, referring to the executive branch. under the leadership of Pedro Passos Coelho.
In the opening speech of the 41st Congress in Almada, the leader of the Social Democrats linked Pedro Nuno Santos, who if he wins the internal socialist elections, will lead the party in the March legislative elections, with former Prime Minister Vasco Gonçalves, close to the PCP and head of II , III, IV and V provisional governments.
For Montenegro, “geringonsa” was a “modern version” of “gonsalism”, of which the former ruler was “the most fanatical defender.”
For the Socialist leadership candidate, Montenegro’s speech was “extreme and bombastic, not at all like a man who wants to lead the country” because it offered no solutions.
Pedro Nuno Santos also ruled out any relationship with Chega, saying “this is not a problem for the Socialist Party.”
“There is not a single Portuguese citizen who thinks that there is a risk that the Socialist Party will come to an agreement with Chega. This is a hot potato for the leader of the SDP, this is not a problem for the Socialist Party,” he emphasized.
Regarding comments that push him to the left and take a more extreme position, contrary to the more moderate and central position of his domestic opponent José Luis Carneiro, Pedro Nuno Santos noted that “the political debate that interests Portugal is not a political debate.” about radicalism or moderation,” but rather “about solving the country’s problems.”
“This is the biggest problem we face. We continue to see different politicians using labels, labels, cataloging politicians and opponents. This is not what the Portuguese expect from us, they expect from us to see if we have the capacity, a project to mobilize them and build a decent country in which we can live better. This is our task,” he insisted.
