The Order of Physicians (OM) this Sunday said hundreds of vacancies to be filled in the National Health Service (NHS) medical trainee competition are a “red card” for the Department of Health, which it accused of incompetence and inefficiency. .
“These are very alarming data that in fact reflect a complete lack of concern and a very poorly done job on the part of the Ministry of Health (MS),” defended Doctors President Carlos Cortes in Luse’s statements regarding the results. competition for access to training in medical specialties, in which out of 2,242 vacancies, more than 400 remained unfilled.
Like the medical unions, the OM is also concerned about the shortage of candidates for the faculty of general and family medicine, which trains family doctors, “a very important area in the NHS, a gateway for patients” and of “very great importance in disease prevention”. but also in the field of internal medicine, “the basis of the universal response of hospitals in all areas.”
The President accuses the Ministry of Health of not carrying out “the work that should have been developed” to make “the National Security Service more attractive and be able to hire more doctors”, as well as of wasting vacancies for training doctors, emphasizing that in the last two years decade, OM has provided more than 40 thousand places for training in the service sector, of which about 38 thousand have been used.
According to OM, almost six thousand places “that the Social Network needs” were unused.
“They did not take advantage of more than six thousand vacancies. Six thousand doctors roughly corresponds to the number of overtime hours currently used annually by the SNA. Therefore, if the various governments had done their job properly, the SNA would certainly “not have the difficulties that it is going through now. This is no longer a yellow card, it is a red card for the work of the MS, which turned out to be incompetent to solve all the problems of the SNA,” accused the president.
For Carlos Cortés, this unattractiveness of SNS “is a big alarm”, which is not even the first in a problem that has been the subject of successive warnings from OM to custody, he stressed.
“The RS has been ineffective in its ability to attract doctors to the SNS and the poor work that has been done and developed is evident. (…) The truth is that this was treated with great carelessness. and incompetence on the part of the MCH,” he said.
The president also criticized the “incorrect, untrue version that the OM created obstacles to the training of medical specialists,” arguing that the number of vacancies presented to the guardianship authorities and unfilled shows “exactly the opposite.”
“I am very afraid of what may happen with the promulgation of the new charter of the OM, in which the powers of the OM will be removed from the OM, especially in the field of training, and I think today it is clear to everyone that the IC does not have the ability to offer the best solutions specifically in this very sensitive and very important area related to medical training,” said the President of Physicians.
Carlos Cortés said the Health Minister’s failure to understand OM and unions’ concerns about working conditions at SNS was particularly damaging to patients and their access to healthcare, predicting that current difficulties “will get worse and worse.”
The competition for the training of medical specialists ended on Saturday with 1,836 of 2,242 vacancies filled, the Directorate General of the Health System (ACSS) said this Sunday, expressing concern about the reduction in choice in the field of internal medicine.
