In a joint statement, PSP and GNR explained that during Operation Portugal + Seguro 2023, more than a hundred nightlife establishments were also inspected and 286 administrative offenses were registered.
As part of the private security service, more than 30 reports of administrative offenses and/or crimes were registered, the department adds, explaining that this operation included checking nightlife establishments and establishments, as well as the use and sale of drugs and psychotropic substances. to deter crime and promote a sense of security.
More than four thousand members of the PSP and GNR took part in the operation, during which 4,099,899 individual doses of drugs were seized, including more than four million doses of cannabis, 561 of hashish, 29,984 of cocaine and 655 of heroin.
82 weapons were also seized, including nine firearms, 20 bladed weapons and 51 pieces of ammunition.
As a result of various inspection activities carried out across the country on Saturday and Sunday, 345 people were arrested, of which 85 for drug trafficking, one for possession of prohibited weapons, 205 for drunk driving and 54 for lack of a legal driving license .
In the field of road safety, 1,633 acts of administrative offenses were issued, of which 526 for speeding, 232 for lack of periodic technical inspection, 55 for drunk driving, 113 for lack of compulsory insurance, 50 for improper use. mobile phone while driving and 55 for failure to use a child seat.
In a note published this Monday, the authorities remind that in the latest Homeland Security Annual Report (2022), among the crimes that increased the most this year are crimes related to violent and serious crimes, which increased by 14.4 % compared to the previous year. year, last year.
They also note an increase in the number of crimes such as drug trafficking, which increased by 48.1%, driving vehicles with an alcohol content equal to or exceeding 1.2 g/l (+43.4%), domestic violence (+ 15%, equivalent to another 3,968 cases), gang crime (+18%, more than 898 cases) and juvenile crime, which increased by 50.6% (another 567 cases).
PSP and GNR also recall the resolution of the Council of Ministers approving the Integrated Urban Security Strategy, which, “in addition to promoting preventive and operational activity” of security forces and services, includes a number of public policies that place particular emphasis on “strengthening prevention and control criminal phenomena associated with nightlife.”
