On the day the woman disappeared, the car of the main suspect in the murder of a pregnant woman in Mourtos was in four different locations, two of which were near Ria de Aveiro. Authorities believe the body may have been left at one of the locations.
Judicial police have already resumed searches along the Ria de Aveiro after a member of the public reported smelling a strong smell of caustic soda on land near the banks. Attempts were made over the weekend to find the woman, involving family members and members of the public.
Fernando Valente, Monica’s former partner, is in custody on suspicion of qualified murder, desecration of a corpse and aggravated abortion.
During the judicial interrogation, the suspect was unable to explain to the criminal judge why he turned off his mobile phone on the same day that Monica Silva’s mobile phone was switched off.
The 33-year-old woman, who was seven months pregnant, was last seen on October 3 when she left home for a pregnancy ultrasound and shortly after called her son to say she was coming home, which did not happen.
