PS announced this Thursday the submission of a vote condemning the attack on democracy in Brazil following an attempt to forcibly undermine the constitutional order by supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
This vote, which will now be analyzed by the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, was first signed by PS parliamentary leader Eurico Brillante Diaz and was also signed by socialist deputies Paulo Pisco, Francisco Cesar, Jamila Madeira and Pedro Delgado Alves.
According to PS, “supporters of Jair Bolsonaro invaded the buildings that house the headquarters of the legislative, executive and judicial branches, vandalizing the facilities, reenacting the events that took place in 2021 in Washington when the United States Capitol was stormed.” America at the initiative of former President Donald Trump, as clearly demonstrated in the conclusions of the report of the Commission of the US Congress on the events of January 6, 2021.
As happened in Washington, PS points out, “the demonstrators in Brazil had the connivance of some elements of the police, who did not use their powers to prevent the demonstrators from moving inside the buildings.”
“Equally reprehensible is that since the demonstrators carried out this attack on democratic institutions and vandalized the destruction of much public property on their behalf, former President Jair Bolsonaro refrained from any call for them to stop and return to their homes. . “, refers to this vote of the PS Parliamentary Group.
PS later notes that “these acts of vandalism against democratic institutions were “immediately and widely condemned by the international community, with particular attention to the United Nations, the European Union and the Ibero-American organizations”.
In this sense, the socialist bench asks the Assembly of the Republic to condemn “the unacceptable attack on democracy in Brazil, which is an attempt to violently undermine the constitutional order, carried out by supporters of the former President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro.”
PS also calls for “the necessary investigations to identify the instigators and determine responsibility, in the hope that the country will quickly return to social and political normality.”
