The Portuguese Police and Prosecutor’s Office (MP) concluded on Wednesday that it is important to “act to prevent cybercrime”, especially among minors who are most likely to commit this type of crime.
In the joint representation of Portugal, the Public Security Police, the Judicial Police and the Cybercrime Directorate of the Attorney General’s Office attended the InterCOP network conference – Forum on the Prevention of Cybercrime, which took place on Monday and Tuesday at Europol premises. , in The Hague, the Netherlands.
PSP said in a statement that the two days of the conference discussed preventive activities that need to be implemented among young people who have high IT skills and are prone to committing cybercrimes.
The three organizations indicate that “the importance of actions to prevent cybercrime and the ability to reach these young people”, mainly adolescent minors, “is on the agenda, as Portuguese organizations are aware of this need and intend to create and take advantage of actions applied at the international level, taking them to the national level.”
“It is extremely important to take action to prevent crime and be able to warn these young people that their actions are illegal before jeopardizing their future,” says PSP.
In a statement, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) said the conference discussed prevention initiatives from other countries targeting young people involved in cybercrime, typically teenagers with high technical skills, and emphasized “the importance of preventing the illegality of this type of activity, to reverse the option for criminals.”
The PGR says that the international network InterCOP works in this area, developing communications campaigns and other activities in partnership with public and private organizations!
InterCOP International operates as a network to prevent cybercrime among young adolescents who have the computer knowledge to commit crimes and, through simultaneous international communications campaigns, seeks to reach this segment of the population to prevent such criminal acts, according to the statement.
PSP also states that the project’s objectives include promoting various campaigns and events, as well as partnering with the private sector to collaborate on a campaign/event promoting encounters between young “hackers” and the police. for the purpose of preventive action/ethical hacking.
The conference was attended by 72 participants from 32 countries.
The Portuguese police and judiciary also state that “the various Portuguese police forces and prosecutors will continue to work together to apply preventative measures and try to counter the growing trend of criminal activity in cyberspace by young teenagers.”
