An illegal nursing home located in Amarante was the subject of searches this Wednesday by the GNR, social security and doctors of the National Institute of Legal Medicine. In a statement, the General Directorate of Investigations and Criminal Investigations said that “the searches were carried out in a private care facility for the elderly, located in the Amarante area, without the structural conditions established by current legislation,” namely the lack of a license.
The process began with an anonymous complaint to the PNP warning of abuse at the home.
For what CM As it turned out, the search of the fenced house began at 7 a.m. with the participation of seven Guard soldiers, two doctors from the National Institute of Forensic Medicine in Porto and two social security inspectors. There were two identified employees on the site, as well as 14 users. Law enforcement officers also identified the owner of the house.
Despite the prosecutor’s statement that the cases of abuse were “supported by witness testimony and documentary evidence,” searches of the facility did not reveal situations of elder abuse.
Due to the lack of a license, Social Security closed the house and removed 14 users.
The statement also states that in the period leading up to this Wednesday’s searches, “inspectors from the Northern Welfare Inspection Department were prevented from gaining access to the location,” leading to the issuance of a search warrant.
