The heads of state of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland refused to pose for a family photo of world leaders at the COP28 climate summit this Friday due to the presence of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Among the heads of state and government who met in Dubai for talks at the 28th UN climate change conference was Lukashenko, accused by European Union (EU) leaders of repressing the Belarusian opposition and allying with Russia in the invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022 of the year.
The leaders of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland – allies of Ukraine – justified their decision not to appear in the traditional COP28 opening photo by the presence of the Belarusian president.
