Venezuela’s president made several statements regarding Esequibo, which is disputed with neighboring Guyana, two days after Venezuelans voted on the government’s intentions to annex the territory in a consultative referendum.
The statements were made during a meeting of the Council of the Federal Government (CFG), attended by the Council of State and the National Defense Council (CDF), which was held at the auditorium of the Army Military University in Fort Tiuna, the main military base of Caracas.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the creation of a broad National High Commission for Defense of Esequibo, which will include the CDF, CFG, National Security Council, political, religious and academic sectors of the country. , in particular universities, and which will be coordinated by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.
