In a statement on its official page, Metro do Porto highlights the 21 years of operation of the system and the opening on December 7, 2002 of the section of the Blue Line that operated between Trindade and Senhor de Matosinhos stations.
From the opening of the first construction site in Campania in 1999 to the opening of the VC Fashion Outlet – Modivas station, the last one created in 2017, the network extended over 67 kilometers and included 82 stations.
Five more lines (red, green, yellow, purple and orange) were added to the blue line, and the municipalities of Vila Nova de Gaia, Maia, Gondomar, Vila do Conde and Povoa do were added to Porto and Matosinhos -Varzin.
Since then, 1,031 million checks have been recorded and more than 133 million kilometers traveled, equivalent to 3,325 complete circles around planet Earth.
