Members of the European Union (EU) European Parliament, as well as the Council and the European Parliament, reached a preliminary agreement on artificial intelligence (AI) legislation on Friday evening.
The information was provided by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), indicating that Member States and MEPs have jointly approved an “interim agreement on artificial intelligence law.” They also state that the regulation “aims to ensure that artificial intelligence systems implemented and used in the EU are secure and respect fundamental rights and European values.”
The European Commission also congratulated the X Act, noting that the European Union “becomes the first continent to have world-first rules on artificial intelligence.”
He also explains that the agreement followed a “marathon” of three days of negotiations between the Council and the European Parliament.
