Global Media management “understands” that given the scale and demands of the “necessary ongoing restructuring process”, the management of the hardest-hit publications “feels unable to sustain itself”, an official source told Lusa this Friday.
The management of Jornal de Notícias (JN), TSF, O Jogo and Dinheiro Vivo (DV) have resigned following a restructuring process involving the reduction of up to two hundred employees.
Speaking to Lusa, an official Global Media Group (GMG) source said the administration “understands that given the scale and demands of the necessary restructuring process underway, the management of the hardest hit brands feels unable to sustain itself.”
Thus, “we are now entering a transition phase, which will naturally be ensured by the current management until new teams are announced,” the same source continued.
“And we are confident that everyone, without exception, is committed to protecting the brands and the future of Global Media Group,” concluded an official source from GMG management.
The sacking of DV director Bruno Contreiras Matheus on Thursday brings the number of departures in senior positions at the group to 11, as well as five from JN, two from sports newspaper O Jogo and three on Tuesday from TSF.
Dinheiro Vivo is a digital publication specializing in economics, published on Saturdays in paper form as a supplement to Diário de Notícias and JN.
In an internal statement on December 6, GMG said it would negotiate redundancies “as a matter of urgency” with 150 to 200 workers and embark on a restructuring to avoid the “more than foreseeable collapse of the group.”
