Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi promised this Monday to build a “new republic” in the country after being officially declared the winner of the presidential election with 89.6% of the vote.
“I am aware of the scale of the challenges (…) and confirm that I am aware that the hero of these challenges is the Egyptian people, who have faced terrorism and violence, experienced economic reforms and their consequences,” El-Sisi said. in a televised speech following the announcement of the results of the elections held on December 10, 11 and 12.
The head of state also reaffirmed his commitment to continue building a democratic country that unites “all its citizens who respect the Constitution and laws.”
