The EU Supreme Court confirmed this Wednesday the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich, a Russian oligarch with a Portuguese passport, after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, reports Reuters. The court decided to freeze the funds.
The court appeal against Roman Abramovich’s measure was not accepted: “The General Court rejects Abramovich’s appeal, thereby maintaining the restrictive measures taken against him,” the High Court of the European Union said.
Recall that in March the EU included a Russian oligarch considered close to Russian President Vladimir Putin on its list of individuals subject to asset freezes and travel bans for his role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
A Russian businessman with Portuguese citizenship who claimed to be a descendant of Sephardic Jews was forced to sell British football club Chelsea after also being sanctioned by Britain.
The assets of the former owner of Chelsea football club in England are being assessed Forbes by more than nine billion euros.
