The hairdresser from Vila Nova de Gaia was sentenced this Thursday in Porto to five years’ imprisonment, suspended, for qualified fraud and attempted extortion. The defendant pretended to have cancer to “take” money from a client.
The defendant’s daughter was sentenced to two years’ suspended imprisonment for the receipt.
The São João Novo court in Porto found that the money transferred to the account of the hairdresser’s daughter was used to purchase various goods and services, and not for health purposes.
A psychiatric examination found that the hairdresser used sensuality and physical attractiveness to force the victim to hand over money. These personality traits prompted the court to decide that the defendant would have to seek psychiatric help.
The defendants will also have to pay the state 51,751 euros – the cost of proven transfers. The indictment alleged fraud in the amount of €81,150.
