234 health centers will be open on Saturday, 191 on Sunday and 187 on Christmas Day, the Ministry of Health said in a statement, explaining that the measure is part of the Seasonal Health Response Strategic Plan – Winter 2023. – 2024.
The plan is being implemented by groups of health centers and regional health departments together with the executive directorate of the SNS.
“This communication aims to help inform the public about alternatives to emergency care for non-emergency acute illness, with the aim of reducing the burden on these services by providing care that can be provided elsewhere in the NHS,” the department said. healthcare.
The public is advised to contact the SNS 24 line in non-emergency situations, such as mild to moderate respiratory symptoms, for advice and possible referral to the nearest health facility, and in emergency situations to contact 112.
In 2023, SNS 24 answered approximately 1.8 million calls, with November recording the highest number of answered calls with over 186 thousand, followed by October with over 173 thousand calls.
The Department of Health reminds that “appropriate use of health services allows for a more timely response to patients, which is critical for the better functioning of the NHS network.”
