A former FBI informant was sentenced Friday to 60 years in prison for running a sex trafficking cult at his daughter’s university dorm in New York, USA. Lawrence Ray, 62, was convicted of 15 crimes, including sex trafficking, extortion and assault. News Buzzy Feed.
The suspect began to commit crimes in 2010, when he moved with his daughter to a university dormitory. He took advantage of the vulnerability of the victims, friends of his daughter, to commit abuse.
Prosecutors in the case described the perpetrator’s actions as “disgusting” and the judge called it “pure sadism.”
“For several years, [Lawrence] deliberately caused gross and lasting harm to the innocent victims whom he had prepared, and abused his representation,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The materials of the investigation indicate that the 62-year-old man tortured the victims, using sleep deprivation, psychological and sexual humiliation, violence and threats.
Some of the victims described Lawrence Ray’s torture as a “nightmare”. In addition to physical, psychological and sexual violence, the aggressor allegedly extorted a large amount of money from the victims.
Lawrence Ray’s defense argued in court that the criminal acts were motivated by a traumatic childhood.
The sentence proposed by the prosecutor’s office in the case is life imprisonment, since the suspect “showed no remorse” for the crimes he committed. “Thanks to your behavior, [Lawrence] represented a danger to others, ”they reinforced in court.
Lawrence Ray’s crimes were first exposed by the media in 2019.
