The Russian military police, the Wagner Group, on Friday denied accusations of recruiting Serbs to take part in the fighting in Ukraine.
“I don’t recruit Serbs,” Yevgeny Prigozhin, the group’s founder, was quoted by Reuters.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said earlier this week that Russia should stop trying to recruit Serbs to fight for Wagner. He claimed that Russian websites and media groups ran advertisements in Serbian asking for volunteers from the Wagner group.
The United States of America said Friday it is imposing new sanctions on the Wagner Group, accusing them of distributing North Korean weapons to Russia for use in its invasion of Ukraine. The Wagner Group denied these accusations, as well as allegations of recruiting Russian prisoners of war to participate in the hostilities.
