A group has been arrested in Portugal that kidnapped an elderly man in order to steal 100 thousand euros. Victim tied to a tree in Barcelona

Judicial police, in collaboration with Spanish police authorities, arrested four men and two women on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery with a firearm, criminal association and money laundering. The operation took place on December 13 in Malaga.

The crimes, some of which took place in Portugal, included the kidnapping of an 82-year-old Portuguese man on August 25 in Almancil.

How did I find out? CMAn elderly man was kidnapped, assaulted and threatened with a gun. He was kidnapped in his own car during a trip of about 1,200 kilometers to the outskirts of Barcelona. He was then left tied to a tree in a nature park for 24 hours.

As a result, the gang escaped in the businessman’s luxury car. The 100 thousand euros that belonged to him were transferred from the victim’s bank accounts to various accounts opened by the suspects using forged documents.

The Portuguese will be released later. The victim managed to free himself from his restraints and, despite his injuries and fear, filed a complaint with the police station of the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan Autonomous Police. He said that while he was tied up, the thieves managed to steal money and other goods from him.

During the operation, replica firearms, materials intended for forgery and falsification of identity documents, as well as various false documentation were seized. Two Portuguese-registered vehicles that had been stolen in Portugal were also recovered.

The detainees, aged between 21 and 43, have criminal records for theft in Spain.

In Lisbon, on December 17, investigative actions were carried out and the identities of other suspects were established. The investigation continues to identify further criminal acts.

The investigation is being led by DIAP Faro.

Attempted kidnapping of another woman

Spanish authorities, according to the EFE news agency, announced the arrest of three more people for attempting to kidnap another woman in Setubal.

The arrests were made after the group unsuccessfully attempted to kidnap the victim on December 11 and fled in their car after he managed to evade his captors.

The car had a GPS and was found in Spain, prompting police action that led to the arrests of suspects and several searches of houses in southern Spain and Portugal.
