US Supreme Court President John Roberts said on Sunday that artificial intelligence (AI) will transform the judiciary, citing risks such as invasion of privacy and the “dehumanization of the law”.
Roberts devotes his annual report to AI, which typically addresses “an issue relevant to the entire federal judiciary.” After looking at the technologies that have modernized the system in recent decades, the judge wondered whether judges would “become obsolete.”
“I predict that human judges will continue to exist for some time. But I predict with equal confidence that judicial work, especially at the trial level, will be significantly affected by AI,” the judge commented in the document.
