NASA is inviting people to send their names to the lunar surface aboard the first rover. VIPER’s mission is to land on the Moon’s South Pole to unlock the mysteries of water and better understand the environment where NASA plans to land the first woman and first person of color as part of the Artemis program.
As part of the Submit Your Name with VIPER campaign, NASA will accept submitted names until March 15. Once submitted, the agency will collect the names and enter them into the robot.
The name-sharing site also allows participants to create and download a virtual souvenir—a VIPER mission boarding pass—to commemorate the experience.
“With VIPER, we will explore and explore parts of the lunar surface that no one has ever gone before, and with this campaign we are inviting the world to be part of this risky but rewarding journey,” said Nicola Fox, Associate Administrator at Science. Mission Directorate.
